No. I will come in to work on Monday when I please. I already come earlier than anyone and I leave later than anyone. I worked more than 80 hours this past week. I do my best and maybe that’s not at the level of other medicine interns, but I expect to be treated with respect.

What is this city to me?

I am not here for the girls. I am not here for the glamour. I am not here for the art. I am not here for the drinks. I am not here for the notoriety. What I am here for is the banker, the upper-east-sider, the hipster, the hip-hopper, the writer, the dreamer, the EDM fairy, the girl in a tight black dress, the girl in short shorts with proud leg hair, the Korean, the Muslim, the cashier, the Jew, the veteran, the homeless veteran, the schizophrenic, the depressive, the nurse, the woolens designer, the architecture student, the guitar player, the Californian, the boy from Malta, the doctor. I am here for the sea of disparate intention. I am here for the humanity—to be lost in it, its flow, its vanity, its self-importance—yet at the same time to remain separate—to observe, to wonder, and to┬ábe amazed.
