1. Couchsurfing.

2. No souvenirs. Only memories and photographs.

3. Don’t get ill. Get shots, antimalarials, don’t drink water, eat only cooked food.

4. Bargain hard.

5. Avoid countries that demand visas.

6. Drink with the locals.

7. Eat street food only or shop at supermarkets for food.

8. Have a good story–gets you drinks. Learn card tricks.

9. Sneak into national parks. Even if you get caught, guards can be bribed. I.e. taj mahal is free to muslims on fridays–so dress the part and sneak in!

10. Overland travel. Hitchhike.

11. ISIC card–discounds

12. Be creative–i.e. store backpack in museum.

13. Mega cheap flights–book out of season, book early, use small carriers. Europe–easyjet, ryanair

14. Bring a debit card–get bank account that charges little for abroad withdrawals. Credit cards and travelers cheques are expensive.

15. Travel insurance–moneysavingexpert.com (50 bux)–check credit card.

16. Unlock a mobile phone–use local sim cards that cost maybe $1

17. Bring a laptop.

18. Decent guidebook–use it to know exchanges, typical costs. Taxis without meters–discuss cost up-front. Avoid the too-good-to-be-true.

19. Travel light–clothes, camera, sleeping bag.

20. Avoid expensive countries.
