Montagu Norman

with one comment

For every billionaire who disperses his or her wealth to the good of the world (i.e. Warren Buffet), there are dozens who seek only more means and influence.  The ones who opt out of the game of thrones are wise, but the ones who opt in stand to win.

“When, through process of law, the common people lose their homes, they will become more docile and more easily governed through the strong arm of the government applied by a central power of wealth under leading financiers.  By dividing the voter through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting for questions of no importance.  It is thus, by discrete action, we can secure for ourselves that which has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.” ~Montagu Norman, Governor of The Bank Of England, addressing the United States Bankers’ Association, NYC 1924

  1. I see in those endlessly ambitious billionaires the central imperative of all life forms: expand your power endlessly, create as many copies of yourself as possible.

I’m perplexed as to why billionaires don’t seem to pursue longevity technology or create clones of themselves more aggressively. They still seem to die at a normal age with a well above average, but not stratospheric number of offspring.
