the box

How do you think outside the box if you are born into the box?  If you are nursed by the box?  Educated by the box?  A product of the box?  Self-knowledge is the key to wisdom.  Learn about your box–not just what your box teaches you, but also what it would rather you not know.  Acknowledge its merits and scrutinize its flaws.  Then, go beyond the entire idea of boxes.

The unconscious is immensely larger than the conscious.

Deny any part of yourself and it will destroy you.

“The only way forward is down.” The answers lie within.  Self knowledge is the key to wisdom. ~Socrates

Meditation is an interesting action. It can bring such profound joy, calmness, and appreciation for life–but unlike the drugs that produce pseudo-similar effects, it is not addictive. Even though meditation can make us feel so genuinely good, it remains extremely difficult (for most of us) to get our Selves to stop caring, shut up, and sit. I take time to meditate once every few weeks at worst and several times a week at best. I need to do it more regularly. It’s just so easy to get sucked into entertainments, online shopping, and reddit.com.

If I can keep exercising three times a week, meditate seven times a week, and slowly enjoy daily cups of tea, I just might begin to live the way I know I should and become the person I know I am.

by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
